Contact Care/Flinchlock Technique is aimed at helping to unlock impacted bone from surprise impact injuries. This means you did not see it coming, eg you kicked your toe, a ball hit you in the head, you fell off a horse, you stood up into a open cupboard door, were in a car accident, any impact that you were not expecting.
There is no manipulation of the bones. When something hits you, your self defence mechanisms kick in to save you and clamp down on that bone that receives the impact. Contact Care/Flinchlock is aimed at releasing the self defence clamp down on that bone. When something hits you, you turn your body away from the impact. The way your body twists or shrinks away is part of what is locked in to the self defence reaction, so your centre of gravity is no longer straight over the centre line. Impacts that you have even as a child can also affect the way you stand or sit. You tend to put pressure onto the impacted bone (eg always lie on your left side or like to sit with one foot underneath you). You can also be twisted or bent to stay comfortable around your impacted bones. Your centre of gravity is often different after a session.
At Aches Away! this technique may be offered as part of your treatment along with Pain Neutralisation and/or Massage Therapy, depending on what you would like. You are welcome to ask for this technique by itself.
Testimonial from C.B. Whangarei
I came to Suzanne with a sprained upper right back, unable to take deep breaths without feeling intense sharp stabbing pain.I was told by a White Cross doctor my injury could take weeks of waiting (and really strong pain killers, the kind that require laxatives to be prescribed with them) to heal. Suzanne used the flinch-lock method, which was interestingly unassuming and not painful or aggressive at all. She was very good at communicating what she was doing the entire duration and how the process worked (which was fascinating to hear about) and regularly checked to make sure I was comfortable and ok. She was able to point out a massive right elbow injury (I had completely forgotten about), which lead to me always feeling most comfortable when working lying on my stomach, putting all my weight on that right elbow which both her and I had suspected would have lead to me putting my back out (which side note, happened in such an annoyingly nonchalant fashion and had nothing to do with my job as a dancer). She checked my whole body out for misalignments using the F.L method to correct my right elbow and a few other places connected to it that had been overcompensating as a result and then worked in the pain centre last. When I left, the immediate effect was that I could breathe without pain, which was such a relief. It was still quite tender and it hurt like a bitch to sneeze. But she told me it could take about four days to work and to gently apply arnica to the area regularly (I also took Panadol/ibuprofen to keep on top of swelling and pain). The next few days that followed, I could feel with each day as though there were knots in my back swiftly unravelling until the pain isolated to one point under my armpit, which then turned into a little pinch, then was gone. I couldn’t believe such a painless treatment that barely felt like she was even touching me, could be so effective! I also notice now that I sit up straight more (taking the pressure off my back) because I can’t lie in my favourite tummy on the right elbow position for too long without feeling it in my elbow (I couldn’t feel anything in that elbow before, which is as Suzanne said, why I liked putting my body weight/pressure on that area). As a dancer, I need to be in good shape so I can do my job, I was so afraid I would be out of commission for a month, which I absolutely cannot afford. So I just want to say a huge thank you to Suzanne, fitting me in on such short notice for starters, fast tracking my healing and being so kind and gentle in my time of pain. I hope more people discover Suzanne and this method. -C.B
